Torre Angelica: A Medieval Tower Reborn
There’s something magical about sleeping in a place where history has seeped into the very walls. At Fattoria San Donato, we are proud to present our newest apartment — Torre Angelica, a luxurious retreat inside our 12th-century tower.
A New Year’s Resolution Turned Reality
The idea for Torre Angelica began back in January 2024, as a New Year’s resolution to bring new life to the medieval tower that has been part of our family since 1932.
For decades, the tower had been used mainly for storage, but we always felt it deserved something more. After all, if you have a tower from the 1100s you cannot relagate it at dust collector!
At first, we debated transforming it into a two-bedroom flat. But soon we realised that the real opportunity lay in creating something more refined, spacious, and unique — a place where history and comfort could meet in perfect balance. A place where we could play with elegant details, precious material and most of all with an already beautiful space.
Over a year of careful restoration later, we are thrilled to open its doors and share this extraordinary space with our guests.
Why “Torre Angelica”?
The apartment is named after Angelica, eldest daughter of Umberto and Federica. And while we insist there’s no family favouritism, Angelica (who also happens to be writing these words) can’t help but feel rather proud of having her name on San Donato’s most special apartment. 🥂 Sorry not sorry, Benny and Fiamma!
The truth is, the name began almost as a joke — but then it stuck. Over time, we realised it had a nice ring to it, and so Torre Angelica was born.
History Meets Comfort
Restoring the tower was about more than just renovation — it was about honouring its centuries-old soul while creating a space of beauty and ease.
Our intention was to let the materials speak for themselves, surrounding our guests with authentic, high-quality elements. Inside, you’ll find a seamless blend of the old and the new:
- Ancient stone walls and wooden beams, preserved with care
- Noble details in marble and onyx, adding elegance and depth
- Contemporary design touches that make the apartment stylish yet welcoming
The result is an atmosphere that feels timeless, warm, and unforgettable.
Built with Friends and Guests
Yet, what makes Torre Angelica even more special is the people behind it.
Silvio and Laura have been long-time guests and dear friends of San Donato, Silvio has seen the three sisters grow, he has brought family, friends and more to visit San Donato. Every time he stayed in one of the flats, being an interior designer, he would present us with notes on what could be improved or new ideas that could have been implemented. We know he really loves this place and this exactly the type of energy and commitment we were looking for when embarking on this new project. So Silvio was the natural choice for such a special project. And Laura too, with her remarkable sense of colour, made a real difference when it came to choosing interiors..
And it doesn’t stop there: many of you also contributed! Back in March, we sent out a survey asking for your suggestions, and received over 30 replies. Torre Angelica reflects those wishes — proof that when our guests speak, we listen.
